Our Story
Yumpling started out as a small stand at the LIC Flea in 2015, selling Taiwanese-style fried chicken and dumplings. This led to the food truck, which served thousands of New Yorkers in Midtown Manhattan at lunchtime and gained a loyal following. Now Yumpling is back in Long Island City as a fast-casual restaurant, dishing out delicious food where it all began.
Our Food
Our goal at Yumpling is to bring the bold flavors of Taiwanese cuisine to New York City. On our menu you’ll find classic Taiwanese dishes, like beef noodle soup, alongside reimagined versions of popular Taiwanese night market fare, like our fried chicken sandwich. Everything is made to order, so you can customize each dish to your personal tastes or dietary restrictions.
Our Team
Meet the Yumpling team: Howie, Jeff, and Chris. Jeff was working as a lawyer in New York when he decided to quit his job and pursue his passion of starting a Taiwanese food business. He grew up eating his grandmother’s Taiwanese cooking and rediscovered a love for it as an adult. Howie was working as an academic director in Vietnam when Jeff, his college roommate, asked if he wanted to open a food truck with him. The two then spent time traveling Taiwan together to experience the cuisine and dining culture. Chris was born and raised in Taipei before moving to the States. A former recruitment principal, he was looking to get into the restaurant business when he was introduced to Jeff and Howie by a mutual friend. The three came together in 2017, and the rest is history.
